After struggling for a bid scouring the interwebs for a method to make the standalone app work with a HTTP proxy server, and not finding all the info in one place, i found a little trick that works for me. I figured some of you might be looking for the ame info, so I'll post it here to share.
this works on windows with the standalone client
1 copy the Launcher(Minecraft.exe) to the minecraft bin directory (C:Documents and SettingsUSERApplication Data.minecraftbin ) 2 Create a batch file in the same directory
It has a bad hard drive.
3 copy paste this text into it java -Dhttp.proxyHost=hostIP -Dhttp.proxyPort=hostPort -Xmx800m -jar Minecraft.exe note that the batch file is calling the .exe, not the .jre. This is normal
4 Change hostIP and hostPort with appropriate values
